    Awesome lense

Ive had this lense on my ‘want’ list for a while. When I had the money saved, I jumped on it. I do a lot of bird photography and this lense does not disappoint. I’ve also used it for close ups. You need about 10 feet distance for the close ups. My previous lense (a 70-200) lense did not zoom feature. I have to remind myself to use it. It is a heavy lense, so some type of support is needed. This details in my pictures are great within its focal range.

  • Top critical review

not very good very disappointed. I don't know if the quality lens has changed because I own this lens over 9 years ago loved it then but it does not w

I bought it mostly for bird photography and sports photography. Took it out and tried it bird photography very soft does not focus correctly does not lock on and it has a tendency to drift. As far as sports not good either took it out to a kid's sports event watching him play soccer locked on very poorly. Will probably go to Canon has a better system

  • Great results for a multi-focus lens at this price, but not a prime

Great lens, my only issue is if you are photographing anything that is more vertical in view, the lens barrel will not stay in desired position and will roll back on itself. (NO LOCKING MECHANISM IN OTHER POSITIONS OTHER THAN 200mm) So I use duct tape to keep the lens barrel from rolling back on itself to the 200mm position. Since it is not a prime lens there is a lot of weight that is being extended forward. Simple solution to a minor issue. Works great with a 2x TC taking it to a whole new level!!! Image of the moon was the first time out for me on this lens… working on refining the focus, this will come in time. ;)

  • You Won't Believe Your Eyes

I bought this lens to upgrade from the Tamron 150-600mm f5.6-6.3 zoom lens. I am a sports photographer for a local newspaper in Colorado. When I saw the first images shot with this lens and my Nikon D4, my jaw dropped. My editor's comment was "AWESOME!". THIS lens is well worth the money if you shoot sports or wildlife. They say one picture is worth a thousand words. See for yourself. It's simple really. Get NIKON glass if you shoot Nikon bodies. Yes, they're more expensive, but well worth the money if you do this professionally or are serious about your photography. This lens is perhaps the best zoom lens Nikon makes. It focuses really quick and holds focus. The bokeh as you can see, is perfect.

  • Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR...

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR Lens is larger than I expected. I found it difficult to find a case that fit the lens with the hood installed. The lens has a nice feature that locks the lens at its shortest length, 200mm. The lens takes good pictures from 200mm to 500mm. This lens compliments my 18-200mm zoom lens.

  • Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens.

Having purchased this lens about a month ago. I am very happy with it. The images that I've captured so far have been superb. Clean and sharp. I use it mostly for my moon shots. At 500 mm, the details are incredibly Sharp. I haven't yet though tried it in sport mode....so I can't say anything about that part yet. For the money, it's well spent. Do note it is a bit heavy...About 8 pounds. And massive too. You can freehand no problem thanks to the VR stabilization. All in all. I do recommend this lens. Happy shooting!!!

  • As Advertised and Images are Tack Sharp!

This lens is all it was cracked up to be. I had a first gen Tamron 150-600mm zoom lens and it was noticebly soft at the long end, so I go the Nikkor 200-500 and am very pleased at the results. The shots I used to take with the Tamron are no longer 'soft' and with the Nikkor, they come out exactly how I saw them in the viewfinder when I took the photos. Focusing is pretty fast, but not lightning fast, which is understandable for such a large range zoom lens, but I would definitely buy this lens again.

  • Terrific Value

I plan to use this lens for shooting large birds in flight, Eagles, etc. I just started using the lens and already can tell the picture quality good. Based on my little sample size, I believe it pairs better with my D500 than my Tamron 150-600 G2. I was a little worried about AF speed before the purchase, but I'm quite pleased with it. I also have the Nikkor AF-S 80-400 which I feel is faster than the 200-500, but not by much. I love the extra reach with the 200-500. And, of course the price was much better. Oh yeah, very pleased with how the AF locks on to the subject even as it moves through tree branches. See pic 2.

  • A Must Have.

yes, yes, yes the best long focal for a decent price you can have. I even use it occasionally with a Nikon doubleur X2. If you are a believer in the Nikon Trilogy (14-28mm, 24-70mm and 70-200mm all at f2.8) this is a nice complement to it and the generous (for the price ) f5.6 is pretty cool. Image is clean... well read all the reviews. It is a great one

  • The best deal in glass.

Massive bang for the buck and top quality. I bought this based on several reviews and I am not disappointed. I have a 24-70 f/2.8 D ED and an 80-200 f/2.8 D ED. This may not be a pro lens like the other two but I just wasn't going to spend ten grand for one f stop on the 500 f/4G. The sharpness this lens delivers is insane. And the VR on this lens is killer. I would never handhold a lens like this at lower shutter speed but this thing just sucks up the vibration like a set of high-performance Koni shock absorbers. Some people have reported front or back focus issues. Of course, that is easily remedied with fine-tuning in the camera menu. I tend to check all of my lenses against my camera bodies and fine tune if needed.
