MAJOR ASSEMBLY REQUIRED!!! Be Warned!!
Nowhere, NOWHERE in the listing does it mention that this item requires assembly. Not just, "Oh, here's another Allen wrench for your collection, just connect this and that," but MAJOR assembly that will take days. There are 279 parts to this thing, including hardware (yeah, I counted). Plus it arrives in 3 boxes, two of which are so heavy I could barely drag it across the threshold into the house, and then had to open the boxes in the foyer and carry the parts piece by piece down to the room where it had to be assembled. A lot of the pieces were nicked or damaged (maybe I wouldn't have noticed this if I didn't have to fit 279 pieces together individually), but what was I going to do? Try to send the thing back? Have the pieces sprawled all over my den while I waited for replacement parts? Anyway, eventually it ended up looking pretty good, although as others have mentioned it is particle board with veneers (albeit nice veneers -- not hardwood -- which likely accounts for the staggering weight of the packaging), and the wine section holders are too narrow to hold champagne bottles. Again: warn people that you'd better have a lot of prior experience with major furniture kit assembly, and to be able to intuitively interpret "instructions" that are essentially a series of drawings with vague hints supplied. Second warning: there are 15 steps to the process, but Step One alone involves 59 parts! Personally, I think they should knock off another hundred bucks or so for the requisite labor of the end-user, but that probably won't happen.
