Volo’s Guide is a moderately sized supplement expanding your D&D 5E games. The book is divided into three parts. The first describes the societies of several iconic monsters and their kin, including goblinoids, orc, and even mind flayers!! The second part provides rules for creating using “monster” races as PCs and NPCs. The third part is an expansion of the Monster Manual, focusing primarily on monsters related to those described in the first two parts, from rare goblinoids to the physical manifestations of beholder dreams! All together, I would recommend this product to anyone interested in delving into these monsters. However if your interest is just playing a single, non-standard race, D&D’s downloadable content may be an easier and less expensive option.
