Honest-to-goodness classic
People often refer to anything that's old as classic. As John Huston so memorably utters in the movie, "Politicians, ugly buildings and whores all get respectable if they last long enough." In this instance the word refers to one of those rare movies where every aspect comes together in a whole so perfect that any alteration is impossible to imagine. Cast, costumes, set decoration, lighting, cinematography are faultless. The story is complex and reveals itself a little at a time. Words spoken in one context, by the end of the movie reveal themselves as meaning something altogether different. The viewer is pulled into 1930s Los Angeles and a tale of deep corruption so compelling that it is impossible to look away. This is not a story for children.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Deep and compelling watching.
There is nothing disappointing about this movie other than I had to watch it several times to catch all the details. I was not initially satisfied with the ending but understood the necessity on further review. Jack should have won the Oscar for best actor. John Huston was amazing.
