A step up from the second one.
Unlike its console older brother, Donkey Kong Land 3 is an entirely new game as opposed to being just a port like DKL 2 was. In a sense, it is a remake of DKC3 with and new and extended story- Any mistakes made from DKC3 were corrected. Like the first DKL, this would be a direct follow up to DKC2, essentially retconning the third one. It was intended to be done that way.
