OPEN BOX PURCHASE: Better than expected, but not without its problems...

I am a wheelchair-bound amputee who has recently gotten into kayaking, but after purchasing a traditional sit-on kayak to go out with friends I realized I would never be able to go kayaking solo-style, due to that yak's 12' length and weight of around 85 pounds. So, with no other options for solo-day trips and wanting to be more active, I decided to buy a second inflatable kayak that I could take out on my own, without any assistance. After much research, I decided the Intex Excursion Pro was the perfect 'yak in my price range and ended up purchasing an open box from Ebay/Spreetail. While I understood my buy was of an open box return and did not expect the kayak to be perfect, I was disappointed to find that the bottom/floor inflation section along with one of the two inflatable seats would not hold air for more than an hour. I am sure it is going to be an easy fix and since everything else was in perfect, new/unused condition, so I won't be trying to exchange it; but I still have not gotten a chance to truly enjoy that kayak, until I can make the needed repairs.

    Didn't hold air

Unfortunately one of the sides doesn't hold air. Box indicates that it should have a patch kit but it did not come with one. I have ordered a patch kit and hopefully I can find and repair the leak. If it holds air I am guessing it would work well. Didn't look like it had much use so wouldn't expect it to leak so maybe something with the manufacturing/folds etc

  • Fantastic value

Very easy to pump and get ready for the water. Very well made of super tough Avon style rubber material. Stable, not tippy. Easily seats two (and a third light weight animal like a dog or camping packs). Holds air for long periods, pump it up - it stays up. Our one issue was working out that the pump values have a proprietary internal “on/off” or air flow “in/out” setting. This is not well explained in the instructions. Once we figured it out the kayak was easily inflated and the air valve snapped shut on disconnecting the pump. By the way, the air valves are proprietary and therefore only fit Intek pump equipment. The hand pump is fairly easy to work so it’s not a big deal. Yes, I recommend it.

  • Intex Excursion Pro is a good buy!

After many reviews of inflatable kayaks, purchased Intex Excursion Pro online. Have used it one day with multiple family combinations (including a kid in the middle) and it performed pretty well. Tracked well, easy turns, very stable. Not sure I like the inflatable seats - the backs don't provide good support so may look at options. Otherwise, this ws a good but for our RV camping trips and not having to deal with hard body kayaks.

  • good buy

Kayak is comfortable, light and easy to inflate. I have used it with my wife over the inland waters. Sitting is comfortable and there is enough room for legs.Moves on water O.K although harder than rigid one. Attached pressure gauge prevents pumping it up too hard. It feels rather soft if the pressure is kept on green range.

  • Safe, stable, easy to setup and take down

Easy to setup and take down. Very stable on the water. Have only used it a few times so not yet sure of the long term quality but so far so good. I had my wife onboard and she was also a thumbs up. Several other kayakers approached us on the water to ask about it. They were impressed.

  • Loving my Intex Expedition Pro!

I am fairly new to kayaking, but I’ve done enough to know this inflatable isn’t up to the same glide as solid kayaks. That said, I don’t have a place to store a 12-foot kayak. I’m also not sure I really want to have to hoist it up onto the roof of my car. The Intex provided an elegant solution! Not only that, but by keeping it in the trunk of my car (it is bulky, though), I can pop it out and ‘yak anywhere I find water! Very cool. Very high quality, too. Very fun!

  • good for it's purpose

the kayak is good tuff quality. it moves smoothly and maneuvers well. it does what it's designed for which is kayaking on open waters. if you want it for 2 people fishing i would look for something with more room. the rod holders interfere with paddling. and the seat backs provide little support if you're trying to sit back and relax. so for those 2 reasons i gave it 4 stars.

  • Excellent value and portability

We love this kayak! after owning several hard kayaks, we totally prefer an inflatable. Compared to a hard sit-in or sit-on-top, it is much more comfortable, lightweight and easy to manuever. Easily fits two people. Great that it comes with two skegs and oars as well. Recommend this product!

  • Great Kayak, second purchase. First one, 4yrs old and still in good condition. I use the Kayak for fishing and would take my daughter with. She's old

Great Kayak, second purchase. First one, 4yrs old and still in good condition. I use the Kayak for fishing and would take my daughter with. She's older so needed a second. Portable for lake with no boat launches. Material is thicker and better than Intexs yellow kayak. I have the yellow also which is horrible compared to the red. Inflates by manual air pump is pretty quick. Deflates instantly by opening the 3 valve. Seats aren't great, very slow air leak while sitting causes bad back support.
