    One product...many uses

I started using TruOil decades ago when I built guns. Recently I started building guitars and needed a clear, non-yellowing an durable finish that could be polished glossy or left satin/matte. I naturally went back to TruOil. It performed well in most situations. Dry times can be long here in SC with high humidity during the summers but an AC solves that issue. Many light coats makes for a strong finish that is water resistant. I'd use this on any semi to porous surface you need sealed and protected. Buying it on eBay reduced the overall costs as my local suppliers are not reliable or competitive. Give it a go. If you don't like it let me know. I might buy it from ya. Cheers!

    Gun-Stock Oil

I was surprised to find out this product really wasn't an oil like I thought it would be. My mistake. It gave a decent finish, but I would not recommend using it on an expensive gun stock as the results were far from perfect. A spray can of Polyurethane would probably have been a better choice to use.

  • Excellent Stock Finishing!

The product is easy to apply with fingers, cloth or brush. Instructions are clear and accurate. Shines a bit brighter than a semi-gloss product and looks terrific! Followed a friend's recommendation and did 5 coats on newly stained wood. Read that you could apply over old finishes and it would work. Tried it on a 75th Anniversary Red Ryder BB Rifle and it worked brilliantly - made the original walnut stain finish pop! I could not be happier with this product. Next I'm going to use it on wooden pistol grips.

  • Spruce it up!

I've been using tru-oil to spruce up my shotgun stocks for several years. When the finish starts to look dull on your stock just break out the tru-oil and do it right. One word of caution - do not use your finger as described on the label. You will get nothing but streaks no matter how good you are. Use a piece of cheese cloth or sometimes I use a soft shotgun cleaning patch to rub on a very light coat. Hang the stock and let it dry for a couple of hours. If you need to clean up any wayward spots just use some 00 steel wool to lightly sand the finish and then give it another coat. Repeat as many times as you need to get that clear coat look you want. The finish is fully cured after 24 hours.

  • First time

This is the first time I have tried this stuff. I am doing a pine body guitar with it. I am not finished with it yet as I am applying multiple coats. What I like is it is very forgiving. If you apply a coat and it is not just right you can just give it 24 hrs drying time and then sand it and reapply. It can also be sprayed from a spray can. My last coats I am going to try putting it in a small jamb gun and spray it out with that. I can see that when I get done fooling around with it I am going to have a very nice Finnish and It has been fun learning how it works.

  • Great Product to Refinish

I bought this due to several other's review and recommendations. It is well worth the price for the quality. Plus it goes a long way. If you only plan on redoing a fore stock and stock, the 3oz bottle will get you by without trouble. I may have used an ounce or ounce and a half and I put about 7 or 8 coats (until the wood stopped taking it in) on both pieces.

  • Great Product : Using it on Natural Maple Guitar Neck

If you replace your guitar neck with sanded but un coated neck this takes the uncertainty out of doing a DIY Poly or Lacquer finish application, which really should be done by a professional with the right spraying equipment. Dries hard in a day or two depending on temp and humidity. Note Several Coats with very light sanding may be required to get the drag less feel you need which is dependent on your individual Playing Style. May require several coats. Easy to remove if you don't like the feel or if you over do it. Note It will darken the wood a bit but enhances the look of the grain. Can also this product can be tinted with stain to match the guitar body finish recommend doing some testing on raw maple before you do the neck. Great Product for getting that custom tint look on the neck Thanks

  • BW Casey Tru-Oil Stock Finish

Can't say how much I have enjoyed the quality of Tru-Oil. I had an old Remington 788 that really needed an update. Decided to strip the stock and start over. I was looking to add a Rosewood or Ebony tip to the stock, but with so much Cedar, I decided to add a 2" Cedar tip. Added a new grip cap, sling mounts and a new Pachmayr Recoil Pad (F325-S-Brown). Purchases 1/16" white rubber and added a white line to the tip and grip cap. After sanding and smoothing out with 0000 steel wool, I couldn't imagine putting any stain on this stock. Fiddleback grain was beautiful. Still in the process of refinishing, but have 5 coats and looks like a million dollars. Applying by hand and finish is hard and smooth as glass. A few more coats and I'll have a new stock. I've used linseed in the past on military stocks with wonderful success. This is the first time I have used Tru-Oil and can't believe the beautiful finish it gives to wood.

  • Best wood finish I've ever used

I rarely write reviews, but I've found Tru-Oil to be something of a revelation and I'd like to pass on the word. I'd never heard of this until I happened to watch a YouTube video about refinishing guitar necks. I bought my first bottle for that purpose but ended up using it on a medium sized computer desk instead. Tru-Oil doesn't have much odor, goes on with a rag, dries pretty fast, and gives the smoothest finish I've ever achieved on anything. I've used many, many different wood finishing products, but Tru-Oil has quickly become my favorite. It looks expensive, but I've found that a little goes a long way. But I like it so much, I'd buy it even if it didn't. Plan on 4 or 5 thin coats, with 400-600 grit light sanding or 0000 steel wool in between (or more coats if you've got the patience). I find I can get 4 or 5 coats on in a day, leaving the last one to dry overnight. There are lots of YouTube videos about how to use this stuff--many people are far more artistic with it than I am. It's definitely good for many things besides finishing gun stocks.
