A solid budget friendly tool
This is a solid and easy to use tool. It works as a vice block and holds your upper receiver tight when changing gas blocks, muzzle devices, hand guards, barrels, and barrel nuts. It also doubles as a rod guide when cleaning your barrel. It's a great tool and very affordable. I would recommend this tool to anybody looking to upgrade from the old clamshell but can't afford or doesn't want to spend 3 times as much on a Geissele reaction rod.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

I ordered this as a hopeful solution to my small vise issue, and problems using a clamshell upper vise block. I just didn’t like the way the block flexed when torquing the barrel nut. I ordered this after seeing one in an AR build video, and thought this the perfect solution to my problem. It took a moment to understand that the device was a two part design. Once I figured this out and properly fitted it to my upper receiver I encountered the only problem with the assembly. The long pins that mate the take down pin holes to the unit are just a shade too fat to fit through my upper. With some effort I was able to get the rear pin through, but there was no way to fit the front pin. My solution was to use extended take down pins. They aren’t long enough to pass through the receiver and both sides of the vise block, but long enough to hold things together. I decided to forego reaming out the front receiver hole, as I like tight fitting pins. The unit is of excellent built quality, and perfectly fits my upper, while also fitting easily in my 2 1/2” table vise. My vise arm rotates, which allows me to work on top and bottom of the receiver without moving the vise block, and the unit remains secure and sturdy, with my rattle or looseness, no matter what the vertical orientation. I’d give 4 3/4 stars if I could, as I hate to reduce the rating a full point for such a minor issue...Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Excellent design, price, and ease of use!!!
The VISM AR Upper Receiver Block does exactly what it was designed for!!! It secures the upper firmly for barrel work and related service. I did encounter a minor issue with the front safety pin location. The pin diameter was slightly over .250" of an inch which discouraged proper engagement with the receiver lug. I lapped the pin diameter in my lathe and the issue was resolved!!! Excellent gunsmith tool and design. Great product. For the price and quality, I'm extremely happy with it!
First, the quality of the product is great. It fits snug and securely with all 3 of my uppers, including my 9mm upper. The only issue I had, was no instructions... I know, it's pretty much a dummy proof product, right ?!?! Well, i was having the hardest frickin' time getting the front pin in. I was ready to drill the holes out. The pin would slide in snugly, but fairly easily without the upper receiver attached, but with an upper on there, I could NOT get the pin even half way through. So I went and watch the video. Looks easy to slide the pins in. I said F'it and used it with the rear pin all the way through and the front pin just past 1/3 the way through. Then after using it several times like the guy does in the video (and it was working great), I just happened to leave the rear hinged open while I was putting the front pin in, and guess what, the som'bish slid in without a problem!! I did the same on all 3 uppers and same thing. repeated that with both pins several times and worked without a problem. Lesson learned (for me), put the front pin in first with the rear hinged open. Then close the rear and put the rear pin in! Now it works bad ass for me!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

VSIM DOES NOT WORK on the Bear Creek Arsenal Side Charging Receivers,not sure about other side chargers. Fits great on standard rear charging and there Dual Charging Receivers ( which they no longer make). It is very well built. Secures your upper in the best possible way. Works great and holds firm.
At first I couldn't figure out how it is supposed to be used til i turned it over and saw the 2 screws that hold it together. Some have said that the pins dont fit their uppers. Well I have worked on 3 uppers and all are made from different companies and I had no problem with fitting them on. Now when using it you dont have to use the 2 lower screws but it does add some extra security and if you do use them dont tighten them all the way down. This will cause a problem with NOT being able to install the barrel nut, as u can see in pic #1. Other then that this is a great product and worth the purchase.

Best one on the market!
I was not sure how I was gonna feel about this item. But I needed to change a barrel and everything i saw looked sub par. I liked the way this item worked and clamped in the vice, and that it was made from aluminum. But I though for the price there was no way it would be that good. I WAS SO WRONG. It is not good. Wish I Found It Sooner
This receiver block is the best I have used with many AR builds over the years. Quality of manufacturing is far better than one would expect for the price. Design was very well thought out with the addition of the the cleaning rod availability and ability to configure the mount as needed. Well planned and executed at a very reasonable price. For a top charger, not a side charger.
Been trying to build a side charger upper. Normal plastic vise blocks will not fit. This vise block looks very good. Fits great on my other standard top charging uppers. Will not fit the side charger because there is no channel for a stick style charging handle. Good piece, big disappointment.
