An excellent headset, but consider waiting for a good discount before purchasing
The Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal is an exceptionally good headset, with excellent build quality, audio quality, noise cancellation, and microphone quality, especially if updated to the latest firmware version through the Bang & Olufsen companion application, which noticeably improves the microphone pick-up quality. One aspect that I have not seen mentioned in other reviews I have perused, and that many may not necessarily appreciate, is the pleasant smell of the genuine lambskin leather ear cushions, which may also help to neutralise any potential sweat odours.
However, that being said, I personally do not feel that any headset, regardless of quality, is worth AUD$840-$880, which is the retail price of the headset in Australia. I purchased my pair at a significant discount, and I certainly do not regret the purchase, but I would advise any potential buyers to wait for a markdown to at least AUD$500 (or the relevant international equivalent), though preferably less; for while I love them, I would never have even considered purchasing them at anywhere near their exorbitant retail price.
I went from the Xbox wired headset directly to the Beoplay Portals and my gaming experience was noticeably better from the moment the title screen music started to play. Very impressed with the sound quality. I do wish the battery life was a tad longer but for what I purchased on eBay for $199, well worth it!
