Gets the job done. Careful of the battery
It runs on the 40volt ryobi batteries, which provides more power to the drive train than the 18volt type machines. This is good when up against tough cutting jobs. Not so good, in that ryobi 40volt packs have a less than stellar record for longevity. I have had two fail after only two cycles, and I never run them empty. A bad experience!!!!
The four amp battery lasts about 30 minutes before it goes flat. I Had to purchase another battery so that I could finish the job on the same day. It arrived with a dent on the lower attachment and a cut on the handle holder plastic. I believe that I have been sent a returned or used trimmer. The box in which the trimmer arrived was taped together many times. On both ends. The box and the trimmer inside left a lot to be desired. Gas trimmer replacement
Tired of mixing fuel and replacing the carb on your no-start gas powered trimmer? This 40v trimmer is a good alternative. Weighs a little less, has similar power for heavy weeds and tall grass. Good run-time on the battery so far. Purchase price complete was about what I spent every other year to service my Stihl FS55. Well Made, Powerful String Trimmer
I've always used an electric string trimmer and this is my first battery operated unit. The trimmer is much heavier than expected but yet is not unexpected - which is not necessarily a bad thing. This thing is quite powerful. With it on the low setting, I got good results. Putting it on high really tore through weeds. The trigger is variable speed which is nice and not very difficult to get a feel for. While today was the first time using it, I found it to be a bit awkward to handle at times - but I attribute this to my inexperience in how to best handle it. Great trimmer! Trimmed the fence around my average size back yard and all my trees and still had plenty of charge left in the battery. It is very powerful. I would rate the power as similar to a mid-range gas trimmer. It is not lightweight like a corded trimmer, but very reasonable weight for its power. Great deal just one problem

Best for low-resistance "Expand-it" attachments. Not best for pole saw, angulating hedge trimmer attachments.
This powerhead is fine for string trimmer attachment or other relatively low resistance "expand it" attachments. Because of the rear-mounted motor, which may improve balance and maneuverability, this powerhead has a longer motor-to-attachment end shaft. So, if using a higher resistance pole saw attachment or hedge clipping attachment with long shaft +/- angulating end, there is a resultant longer cumulative shaft length and MORE VIBRATION than older model powerhead with shorter shaft.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

I only needed the top part of this, minus the battery, and I was hoping it would work with my bush clearing attachment from Ryobi. I was very pleased that it worked. It was shipped poorly, however, and the crucial post piece was slightly flattened upon arrival.
