Product Code: 14754. The B-17 was one of the most advanced heavy bombers in the United States Army Air Force prior to WWII. This new kit features the new posable clear stand for displaying the model in-flight and new markings for 2 aircraft that operated with the 8’Th Air Force in WW2.
Minicraft Model B-17G scale 1/144 bombers will be used in a tabletop wargame for the LifeLong Learning Class at Wofford College.
Over the past few months I have been collecting several B-17G bombers all of which are 1/144 scale models. Two of these models are Minicraft Model Kits scale 1/144 B-17gs for 14754. These two will help complete my wing of 12 bombers as I have a 12' x 6' table with four flat boards spray painted blue for the sky. The bombers will be placed on round stands to support them for various elevations for each box of three bombers. So, these Minicraft bombers fir the bill and blend in well with the other 1/144 B-17G bombers.
The game will encompass using the game board from AH "LUFTWAFFE" to show the bombers on the inward flight towards the target and the outward leg, too. Also, the game board will show the various Luftwaffe air fields for the German player to send fighters to defend strategic targets for the Reich. The 1/144 bombers will remain stationary on the large map board covering the width of the map board. The American P-47s and P-51s will be positioned to respond to any onslaught of German fighters attempting to disrupt the bomber formation. This part of the game will rely upon the AH game of "B-17: Queen of the Skies" for air combat against the bombers and between fighters.
So, this wargame is based upon a variation of aerial combat for my military history class that I taught for the last seventeen years of my 37 year tenure as a history teacher - 14 yrs at Jonesville HS and then the last 23 yrs at Spartanburg High School. The warfare class was a senior elective for students interested in military history. One of the guest speakers for the SHS class was the pilot of the Memphis Belle. A video of General Robert Morgan will be shown to the LLL class as well as clips from "12 O'Clock High" and "Memphis Belle."
Thus, I am looking forward to teaching this class - "B-17s vs the LUFTWAFFE" for Wofford's LL.L program
