It was originally released in October, 1982. 1999 was Prince's first Top Ten album on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States, subsequently becoming the fifth best-selling album of 1983. 1999 is certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA. The album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2008.

Arguably, Prince’s second best album.
This is the album that put him on the pop culture radar. 1999, Little Red Corvette, Delirious were all hits. A great album all together overshadowed only by Purple Rain.
