Product Information

Shozin Fukui, director of PINOCCHIO 964, followed up that film with a prequel of sorts, entitled RUBBER'S LOVER. A secret corporation has decided to stop funding a series of experiments in psychic powers being undertaken by a group of unscrupulous scientists. Subjecting a number of human guinea pigs to sensory deprivation and connection to a powerful hard drive has resulted in horrible death and little success every time. Desperate for one last attempt, the scientists break into the lab and try one last experiment on a colleague. This time they succeed, but also with disastrous and unintended results. RUBBER'S LOVER is shot in grainy black and white, accentuating the grimy industrial setting where the horror takes place. The surroundings are merely one element exploring the themes of claustrophobia and isolation in the film, which takes its place alongside TETSUO: THE IRON MAN in the annals of Japanese cyberpunk horror.
