A truly fine human interest story set in the background of war....in other words, a great armed forces recruitment film.recruitm
The movie "Bataan" is legendary. When I first saw the movie back in the late 1960's it captured my attention because it portrayed the resilience of the human spirit to believe in a cause and die for it. I am in the process of writing a memorial to 56 young men from my school district who fought and died in Vietnam. They were all Mexican Americans, who at the time, were under siege from the so-called white Americans in terms of racism, segregation, and exclusion. However, this did not deter them from their obligation to this country to fight and defend it against those who threatened our freedom. There a prayer in the early part of the movie done by the only Black actor in the movie. He happened to be a preacher and recited a very beautiful and inspirational prayer for their commanding officer. The scene in the movie has all the soldiers looking at one another after he says the prayer. The other very meaningful part is at the very end when only three soldiers remain. The sailor, who was just wounded in the arm, asked for help to write a letter home to his mother . one of the soldiers says the letter would never be delivered...However, the response to the comment was that it didn't matter it would not be delivered but mattered because he was writing it to his mother...the letter was eventually written. In the next scene they are overwhelmed. but only after the sergeant philosophied that it did not matter they died...only that they died for freedom...Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Excellent movie
I was eight years old when I first saw this movie in the early sixties when it was shown on TV even then I knew it was a very exciting movie, I'm 66 now, the DVD transfer of this movie is excellent and I'm very glad that I have this DVD in my collection..Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

A classic, WW 11 movie
This DVD had a couple of little glitches, but was corrected with cleaning and it is part of my collection now of war in the Philippines, as I was an honorary poll bearer for the late, great General Douglas MacArthur...as a military member at the time.
