Captivating with a good plot and believable story
The setting was well constructed and consistent with the era it was written about. The husbands motive for marrying his wife was more than questionable. It is obvious that over the years he becomes troubled about something, yet never seeming to be able to grasp the answer he seeks.. Finally, receiving a tip on what is occurring, he unexpectedly returns to his home and catches his wife and her lover in the act. In the end he divorces himself from the problem, leaves and it appears he had for some time been nursing special feelings for his field assistant. Dissolving one problem he puts the new relationship to his advantage. A wonderful example of the intrigue and betrayal that is manifested by typical "British reserve" within an aristocratic family interacting with a gentleman of science.
