Tom Hanks and a giant, slobbering dog - how can you go wrong?
A better-than-average light comedy with Tom Hanks playing his great. likable self. There's an old axiom in Hollywood never to work with dogs or babies, and the dog in this film nearly steals the show. This "Dogue du Bordeaux" (or French mastiff) has such an expressive face that you feel his emotions in every scene. According to his page on IMDB, this was the first and last appearance of this canine actor. I hope that he and Hanks enjoyed making this film as much as I enjoyed watching it. SPOILER ALERT****A warning to parents watching with young children, there is a gratuitous heartbreaking ending about 5 minutes before the last scene (wherein a bit of the heartbreak is mitigated) but it makes me cry and curse the writers every time I watch it; young children (and dog lovers) will need a hanky and a hug.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
