Having worked with Donnel Jones, Sunshine Anderson, D'Angelo, Eve, 2Pac, and the Nappy Roots, Hamilton was no stranger to the music business when this breakthrough album was released. In fact, COMIN FROM WHERE I'M FROM--nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award For Best Contemporary R&B album--was technically his fourth record (although his two earliest albums were never released).
