  • Fantastic, reliable, versatile 35mm film camera.

Canon EOS-1V is a great film camera. it does have plenty of electronic components that might deter some hot headed "manual only" peeps, but for my money it's just b-e-a-utiful camera that allows me to mix my shooting style. I can do the full auto, aperture priority, or manual if it tickles my fancy. it holds just right in my hands, weather sealed, . It can shoot in burst mode ... yes! you can ak-47 this thing at will from the heap if you want, with your eyes closed. You can swap grips to get from 3FPS to I think close to something like 10FPS. and it is last film camera that Canon produced before going on a dark side (DSLR).

  • Didnt expect much...

however, for the price, I'd say it was well worth it. 3 different lenses all perfectly intact, although one of the covers for the lens came broken, probably the shipping/mailmans fault..Haven't tried it out yet, but the old batteries from the flash from the speedlight flash leaked out and hardened, which makes it difficult to remove the cover and clean/replace it. Dust was still on the camera haha but thats fine. Thats what you get for ordering something so old. The two straps it came with are great, and I can't wait to test this bad boy out for my photography class. Great starter kit.

  • Very nice, affordable 35mm body for Canon glass

The EOS-1v is a very nice body for anyone who has already invested in Canon glass. The autofocus is responsive and with 45 points sits between a 5D mkII and 5d mkIII in capability, closer to the mkIII. Of course your glass makes the difference here - try to use fast lenses at f/2.8 or better to give the focus as much light as possible as the focus points aren't quite as sensitive as the latest digital body. (My body is 15 years old after all!) Luckily, the 28-70 f/2.8L and 80-200 f/2.8L are also affordable so if you're using f/4L lenses on your digital body you can make a "film kit" to go with your digital body. This body saves exposure information for all shots it takes, and while the Canon software is no longer available you can pick up a Meta35 cable and USB key that replicates the old Canon functionality (including setting some of the custom functions not available via the camera buttons). If you're thinking of dabbling in 35mm photography and you're already a Canon owner, the EOS-1v is a good bet.

  • One of the best film SLR cameras to date.

As far as film SLR cameras go this is one of the best around. There is a reason Canon has sold more than 3 million of these over the years. No matter if you are shooting in Program Auto or Full Manual this camera is flawless. Everything about it is incredible. Colors are pure and black and white film is spectacular. My favorite film to shoot is Ilford HP5 400 speed Black and White with this camera. I am never disappointed. With a ton of lens choices out there for the FD mount it is hard to find a better deal. The 50mm 1.8 is a great lens that produces nice bokeh for a wonderful price and the build quality is very solid. I shoot with a 28mm 1.8 most of the time because I love the effect in depth of field that it gives. That lens will only set you back another 60 or so dollars. The camera is extremely rugged and performes beautifully in almost every situation I throw at it. If you are looking in to getting a film SLR this is a camera that anyone can use and get fantastic results.

  • Classic Camera

Back in the day when film was king, there were dozens of camera trying to garner accolades as to which camera was king of the genre. Canon's 'A' series of cameras walked off with the honors due to their user friendly features which made shooting film easier rather than harder to do. The feature that made the 'A' series cameras king of the hill is automatic film exposing. When you can point a film camera and just focus and shoot is a major feature. Then add in automatic flash exposure, Canon is hitting the target dead center. Macro exposures and fantastic closeup abilities plus excellent portraiture features are just icing on the cake. The lens system behind the 'A' series of camera is second to none. Grab a prime lens or a zoom, Canon has the bases covered and then some. Then add in third party lens makers such as Sigma, Tokina, Soligar and others, it makes choosing Canon as the way to go. The Canon AE-1 is the epitome of the automatic exposure crowd. Stylish, rugged, easy to handle the Canon AE-1 is the one to get. It takes flawless pictures and lends itself to whatever the photographer has in mind. Jewel like in its mechanicals, this camera is far and away the one that covers all the bases, from raw beginner to professional level photography you cannot make a mistake in selecting the Canon AE-1 as the one for you. There are so many camera manufacturers, what with Nikon, Minolta, Pentax, Fujica and so many others that choosing a camera for a given function sometimes difficult. But when you have a camera that jumps out at you with features and functions galore, it gets easier to focus in on the one. The Canon AE-1 gets my vote as the one that does it for me.

  • Classic by Canon

I really like the A1. The only things that could be better are the control dial could be larger for ease of use, and it would be nice if it had a faster shutter speed. It's nice that it has both aperture and shutter priority. The range of fd lenses is a plus.

  • Lightweight with Great Features.

The Canon A-1 arrived in Perfect Condition and I really love it. I have already exposed a roll of B&W film and I can hardly wait for the Lab to return my order. I would give the Seller of this Beautiful A-1 Camera an A+!! This film camera has really made my photo dreams come true. Thank You!!

  • Canon A-1

This particular camera I bought is in excellent condition as purported. I already had 4 FD auto lenses and they work perfectly with the camera. I bought a standard back for the camera on eBay for $10, and that's what will be on it most of the time. I'm still test shooting a roll of color film, but I'm confident the result will be excellent pictures. The databack is outdated with the year designations ending with 1988, but that can be overcome with the single digits on the "YEAR" dial. The "MONTH" and "DAY" dials are perfectly usable. Developing 35mm film is no problem. I'm very happy with my "new" A-1.

  • Best Pro-sumer film camera ever.

In the history of film photography the Canon A-1 will always place as one of the best, if not the best, pro-sumer cameras ever made. Combined with the excellent glass presented in the Canon FL and FD lenses, it just can't be topped without moving to the Canon F-1 or the Nikon FTN pro cameras. I'm not really that sure those are better. The Canon F-1 uses the same glass, and the Nikon lenses of that period aren't really any better. Over the years, I've had them all, but keep coming back to the Canon A-1. Today, if you like digital as well as film photography; the FL and FD lenses that were made for this camera work very well with most mirrorless and DSLR cameras made with the use of a simple adapter. No real need to buy two sets of lenses.

  • MY Canon

I love this camera and all of the different lenses. I do a lot of close-ups and sometimes that one flower is 40 feet up in the tree. I can still take a pic as though I was holding it in my hand. All camera parts work and the photos come out so professional. I would take this camera over a newfangled electronic camera any day. They are so good that photo classes still use the Canon AE1 as the required camera for beginner students. I paid very little I think for what I received but I wouldn't sell it for any amount of money.
