Great information on the different types of passenger and freight cars the Great Northern had, even up to the merger and after. The book gives a good quick overview of the different types of cars, uses, and there basic data information. Over all the photograph are of good quality. For the modeler and layout operator, this book is great resource for the types of equipment that where running in the 1960's. Only down side is, there are some minor typos and editing errors. But nothing to write home to mom about.
I am modelling the Spokane Portland and Seattle Railway in N scale and want a majority of freight cars to represent the connecting railroads (with Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Milwaukee Road and Western Pacific to be in the majority over Union Pacific and Southern Pacific. Having this book solves the choice of which GN boxcar paint schemes were the most common.
