The first console port of the greatest arcade shooter of all time, Galaga for the Atari 7800 is somewhat of a failure in terms of being a pure adaptation. The ship is too small, the stars aren't colorful, and overall the game lacks the gusto and the graphic vibrancy of its progenitor. In addition, the home version allows for continuous fire by holding down the button, something the original game wisely avoided. On the brighter side, the sound effects and enemies follow roughly the same patterns as their coin-op counterparts, and the shooting action, while not as intense or as crisp, does maintain some of its fun factor.Product Identifiers

Arcade level graphics and sound in need of better control.
In terms of graphics, the Atari 7800 version of GALAGA is almost the original arcade game. This was no small feat for a mid 80's console! Sound is surprisingly good too! Galaga is an awesome conversion of the 1984 arcade classic. It makes a great transition from the arcade to your 7800 pro system. Your part of the intergalactic warrior fleet. Your duty is to stop the galagans from over taking earth. Long, long ago there was an interstellar war and the galagans lost their grip on the planets in which they controlled. One by one the galagans retake all the plants one by one. Now they are ready to take yours! Jump into your star fighter and unleash a storm of later fire. They will break out of formation and race at you in a kamikaze style attack. They don't care to sacrifice their own in attempt to reclaim your world. The action is fast. The colors are vibrant and the enemies are well detailed. When the galaga song plays you'll catch yourself tapping your feet to its in snaring rhythm.
