SynopsisFinally, the long-awaited English edition of this historic Japanese book is here! The Beauty of the 'Burst pays tribute to Gibson's magnificent Sunburst Les Pauls made between 1958 and 1960, the most highly prized solidbody electric guitars ever. The magnitude of their value is directly related to their look (outrageous wood patterns, or "figured" timber), since non-players are paying top dollar for them. The book features lavish full-color photos of these beautiful instruments throughout; the guitars of famous players; a foreword by Ted McCarty; a bio of the author, world renowned collector Yasuhiko Iwanade; and the "Science of the Burst" section with over 30 pages of detailed reference facts on every facet of the guitar, including colors, wood figure, pick-ups, hardware and qualities of "voice." This may be the closest guitarists will ever be able to get to these incredibly collectible beauties! 216 pages, 8-1/2 inch. x 11 inch. • The "Burst" Book

The book is well done. It not only looks good on a coffee table, but is analytical in its approach to the guitars that are featured. A true wealth of knowledge that I was unaware of until I started reading it. I will never be worthy of one of these fine instruments, but I can scour the world armed with the knowledge that the book imparts for an LP with a look and sound that may closely replicate it.

  • Great photography and info on the iconic era of Les Pauls!

Iconic work on the collectible era of Gibson Les Paul guitars - ‘58 to ‘60 sun bursts. The photography in this the paperback English translation is spectacular. The accompanying information about the guitars and the most avid of collectors is engaging to enthusiasts. So much more than a coffee table book.

  • A good book on Les Pauls

It could use more info on the history of each guitar, or anecdotes about each, but aside from that, it's excellent.
