When a sick boy (Fred Savage) receives a visit from his doting grandfather (Peter Falk) who intends to read to him from his favorite book, he's not exactly pleased to be extracted from his world of video games. However, his mood quickly changes as he, along with the viewer, is transported to a place out of time--to Florin, a kingdom in the ultimate imaginary land, complete with dashing heroes, cowardly princes, rhyming giants, shrieking eels, rodents of unusual size, fancy swordfights, and yes...even some kissing.The lovely Buttercup (Robin Wright) learns that "As you wish" really means "I love you" when she falls for her charming farmhand, Westley (Cary Elwes). While trying to seek his fortune, however, Westley disappears at sea, an apparent victim of the Dread Pirate Roberts, who takes no prisoners. A few years later, Buttercup, engaged to the oily Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon), is kidnapped by an oddball trio of rogues--brains, Vizzini (Wallace Shawn); brawn, Fezzik (André the Giant); and sword, Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin in a standout performance). As they sail away toward the Cliffs of Insanity, they notice the pursuit of a man in black...and the adventure begins. A clever fairy tale for all ages, THE PRINCESS BRIDE is arguably one of the funniest and most entertaining films of all time.

Arrived in good condition and loved the story.
I saw it on Cable-TV and had to have a private copy to enjoy at my leisure. The story is wonderful and the portrayal is engaging. The scenery is real and believable, which helps the plot blend seamlessly adding a 'reality' to the total story. I forget that I am watching only a movie. This makes me a feeling of seriousness and sometimes, outrageous-comedy... a feeling that I have met them, somewhere and have enjoyed their tale of life.

My favorite movie from Rob Reiner.
I love watching the princess bride, when I was a kid. Also, I’m glad to own this movie on dvd from my childhood. Yes, it comes with widescreen on 1.85:1 aspect ratio of the flat screen and I still wish they would have kept the fox logo on blu ray disc and dvd, instead of mgm logo plastered. Lastly, I’ll recommend this to my friends and family.

Princess Bride is romantic and free of profanity, nudity and all that cable junk.
Lots of friends had this in their "guilty pleasures" collections, so I needed one of my own. Glad I bought it and can share viewing with soe "oldsters".

I got this to replace my lost copy. "As you wish" is how my husband 1st told me he loved me when we were dating. It's our favorite movie. The story line is entertaining and the characters are lovable except if course the bad guys!
