Fully capable and up to date, provided the modem sticks to Windows.
One of the nicest things about this USB modem is that it is fully supported by today's Windows operating systems: including Windows 10 in 64-bit. It may not be this way straight when you plug it in, but the provided CD (or online downloads) will quickly boost the device to full capability. It makes solid voicemail recordings and provides full Caller ID capability when paired with appropriate TAPI software. Checking it in a Linux system reveals the modem runs a Lucent/Agere/LSI SV92P chipset. This is a software-based modem so getting it to run in a Linux environment involves some hoop-jumping (it is NOT plug-and-play in a standard Linux environment; this also means it's not well suited for Raspberry Pis and similar setups) and doesn't lend to ease of use there.

Vague instructions but it works
I am first to admit I am computer challenged, and the instructions that came with this unit left a lot to be desired but in the end it worked with Windows 10. I don't know why or how but I can send a fax and I have no idea how I get to receive a fax but perhaps with additional research or dumb luck I will be able to use the device to its fullest.

Great product and excellent technical support. I had an issue that turned out to be that Windows 10 loaded an incorrect driver by default. I loaded the Hiro driver off of the supplied disk and it started working fine. There customer support went out of their way to help with the problem

Works great.
Apparently something (Windows 10 ?) changed and my previous USB modem quit detecting the dial tone when sending outgoing FAXes. The HiRO just plugged right in and was ready to go. Thought I'd at least have to set up with software but apparently no. I put HiRO disc in and saw no prompts, It began detecting dial tone immediately.

Caller ID modem that works in the UK
I bought a couple of modems advertised for sale in the UK as having caller ID functionality, but did not decode caller ID. I read about the HiRO in a US product summary, so bought it and find that it does in fact work on BT / TalkTalk lines. I am able to connect my computer, line and telephone to the HiRO and calls can be made or received whether or not the computer is working.

And a cheaper one, advertised as being compatible with Windows 10, did not work at all. So this is worth the price, and if you're switching from broadband to dial-up, the savings will cover it quickly. I did that seven years ago and I got this for a neighbor who wanted to switch. She's the one with Windows 10--my own system has LINUX. If you're switching from broadband to dial-up, keep in mind that you won't be able to watch streaming videos because the dial-up speed is too slow. But you will be able to visit web sites, do email, and anything else text-based. It is probably a good idea to turn off Windows updates, as they'll take forever to load on dial-up. But if you have a local dial-up access number and an unlimited local landline phone plan, your total internet access costs should be a fraction of what companies charge for broadband. Apart from not being able to watch videos, the difference in speed for text is barely noticeable. Graphics do load slowly, but text is about the same as US basic cable speeds.
