VERY EFFECTIVE FOR CATS, TOO!
Thomas Labs is an excellent company: I did some research on them.
Doxycycline pharmaceutical grade antibiotic that can safely be used on cats.
The company states for FISH ONLY, but they need to cover themselves legally as they are NOT veterinarians.
ALWAYS CONSULT A VETERINARIAN IF YOU BELIEVE THERE IS AN UNDERLYING CONDITION INVOLVED.
I work with stray and abandoned animals and there is no way I could afford a $45.00 office visit every-time I came across an animal with the typical cat fight wound that is in desperate need of the appropriate antibiotic. Lots of times the cat's immune system will deal with the infection on its own, then, there are serious wounds that can turn into a more serious condition if medication is not administered.
If the antibiotic isn't enough to address the illness and I do not see positive results, then, I trap them and they are taken to the veterinarian. That happens rarely as I see more cat fight wounds than anything else.
Doxyxycline is a wonder antibiotic that addresses upper respiratory infections, intestinal worm infections, deep dermal wounds, and urinary tract infections, and many other issues.
Consider the weight of the cat to determine the appropriate dose.
Dividing the tablet according to their weight. The average adult cat weighs between 9-12 pounds. WEIGH YOUR CAT FIRST. Weigh yourself. Then, stand on the scale holding the cat in your arms. Do the math to determine the cat's weight.
Just be sure you take into consideration IF ANY OTHER MEDICATION HAS BEEN ADMINISTERED THAT MAY HAVE HAVE AN ADVERSE REACTION WITH DOXYCYCLINE.
I divide the 100 mg. tablet in quarters to get 25 mg. of Doxycycline.
The 25 mg. is administered ONCE every 12 hours usually, for ten days (depending upon the illness being addressed).
GIVE WITH FOOD because this drug as in many antibiotics may cause nausea.
25 mg. is the average dose that is used and 99% of the time it is very effective and GENERALLY VERY SAFE IF USED WITH CAUTION:
IF YOU REMAIN WITH-IN THE STANDARD REQUIRED DOSES FOR THE INDIVIDUAL CAT'S WEIGHT TAKING CARE NOT TO OVERDOSE.
Self-medicating an animal can be dangerous. It is always more responsible to get them to the Vet.
Vets are very expensive. If you know for certain it is a general infection, this medication will address it effectively head-on and eliminate the bacterial infection fast.
I have a wealth of experience, yet when I am uncertain, I hit the internet and search for credible veterinarian information from sources like Cornell Veterinarian Medical Hospital.
Still, consulting a veterinarian is still the best and most wise decision.
When you are desperate and in need, this medication works!
REMEMBER: NOT ALL ANTIBIOTICS CAN BE SAFELY GIVEN TO A CAT OR DOG.
DO SOME RESEARCH TO SEE IF THE CAT OR DOG CAN TAKE THE MEDICATION THAT YOU ARE CONSIDERING.
ALSO, RESEARCH TO SEE IF THE ANTIBIOTIC IS THE CORRECT ANTIBIOTIC FOR THAT PARTICULAR CONDITION.
This is where the internet can extremely helpful, but does not take the place of a professional veterinarian.
