Oldie but goodie.
I bought this for times when my laser rangefinder's batteries die or can't get a clear line of sight to a large enough object to get an accurate range. Will get a reading as close as 19 yards and as far as 400 yards, which makes it versatile for bow hunting as well as medium-range hunting. The farther out it is, however, the less accurate its reading, which is common for stereoscopic rangefinders. The longest I'd trust my ability to read it would be 200 yards. Farther than that, and I use the Mk 5 model "Rangematic 1000". The Mk 5, however, doesn't work close enough for bow hunting.
I have found it impossible (for just me?) to use in low light due to the way the images are combined. I find it more useful during recon to determine distances from a blind/stand to objects, then at dawn, use those objects to estimate range to your target.
I don't know of anyone that makes these new anymore, so if you want one for SHTF, get one while you can.
