Writer Jean Genet's only film is a beautifully shot blend of art film and pornography. Using light and shadow, UN CHANT D'AMOUR (SONG OF LOVE) creates a sensual and sensuous black-and-white picture of two prisoners divided by a cell wall. Their separation limits their interaction, requiring them to communicate through knocking and holes in the wall. When a jealous guard inserts himself into their romance, the story takes an even darker turn. This silent film is only 25 minutes long, but it perfectly communicates the longing and desire of the two men. Though frequently censored and/or banned, Genet's film from 1950 is here in its entirety. This release also features a documentary called GENET and an interview with the author.
