About this product

Product Information

Step up to the intensity of quad-core speed with the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66 GHz processor. This CPU brings no fewer than four separate cores to bear while serving your computing requirements. The Intel Core Q6700 is created to power x86-64 bit digital architectures. This means that you're covered if you need access to older applications. This impressive processing unit has an LGA 775 physical design. Land Grid Array chips like the Core2 Quad feature flat contact areas that link to motherboard posts. Combined with Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) sockets, this allows you to install the chip with less risk of damage. The Core2 Quad drives operations under the hood at a speed of 2.66 GHz. In addition to this rate, another level of power is available in cases of high usage. This is the Intel Q6700 overclocking capability, which allows running CPU velocities up to 3.64 GHz when the need arises. It also syncs with the Front Side Bus (FSB) at a rate of 1,066 MHz. This gives you a valuable reserve capability that comes in handy in a variety of scenarios. The Q6700 has a number of other ways to increase data throughput. This hardware is created with Intel's multiple-thread processing engineering design embedded within the core. This allows the four processing units to seamlessly work with applications capable of multi-threading operations. Capably supporting this provision is a full 8 MB of Level 2 cache located right on the die. This provides each separate core with 2 MB of space to work with and lets the CPU carry out read\write operations more rapidly. In addition to these performance options, the Intel Core2 Quad processor includes a number of Intel's Advanced Technology engineering tools. These are designed to further enhance speed, storage, and safety. The Intel Dual Dynamic Acceleration design works to control the frequency rate of any single processing core. By routing 2.66 GHz resources to active cores while inactive ones are sleeping, you can greatly improve performance. Having this ability can help you to be more productive and process larger workloads.Intel's DDA creation comes in handy when the time comes to implement Virtualization technology. This is a built-in volume of tools that serve to optimize virtual software environments. The Intel Core includes the ability to simultaneously support the operation of several discrete operating systems. With the Intel Core chip, you'll be able to combine many virtual servers on one machine. This allows you to save on resource output while enjoying greater flexibility and increased workload capacity. The Q6700 processing unit also uses Virtualization assets to increase overall security. The Intel Core2 Quad does so by keeping the virtual machine environment separate from operating systems.Acting in concert with this design is the Intel Enhanced Virus Protection (EVP) implementation. When used with supported operating systems, this tool acts to prevent viruses from executing their contents in program memory. It does so by identifying and marking suspect storage areas, preventing malicious code from gaining a foothold.

    Last Resort Update

This is an older CPU, having been surpassed by the various generations of i3,i5, and i7 Intel CPU's. Formerly a OEM installed CPU, it is used now as either an upgrade (as I used it), or as a replacement for an identical CPU that, for some reason, has failed. As a replacement, depending upon the clock speed being used, and the socket being used, this CPU can produce from good to spectacular improvement. Heat generation is the greatest among CPU's of this class, therefore caution must be exercised to guarantee adequate cooling or any improvement gained will be lost through "overcooking." Real speed comes from upgrading RAM and the type of operating system employed. Windows 8.1 Pro, and Windows 10 Professional are modestly improved by this CPU upgrade. Linux (especially Debian based distros, even though Red Hat and Fedora-based distros show improved performance) shows the greatest use of this CPU as a system upgrade. Why 4 stars instead of 5? This is an obsolete upgrade, and while it performs well in some cases, it is not the inexpensive alternative upgrade to the speed of the i3, i5, i7's that might be expected.

  • Top critical review

It performs satisfactory, except that only half of the level 2 cache works.

The CPU I ordered is what was delivered (Q6700), but when I installed it and tested it with the Intel Processor Identification Utility, it showed that only half of the level 2 cache is working. It has a total of 8Mb of level 2 cache, but with only half working its 4Mb of level 2 cache. It would cost me more by postage to send it back and receive a replacement, so I've decided to just grin & bear it.

  • Bargain Speedup

After watching a YouTube video and doing a bit of research, I decided that this would work in my Optiplex 745 SFF and my 745 MT. It did. Installation was easy in both 745's and the video was helpful. All I had to do was remove the heat sync, take out the old and put this one in. Then I dabbed on some paste and re-assembled. The computer started with no problems and just went right back to work at increased speed.

  • Great for the money

This cpu is still easily capable of 1080p gaming on high settings idk how but it is😂 I really recommend it over the popular q6700 because it takes up the same aount of power and has a faster core clock. Thanks

  • Dell Precision Workstation 390 upgrade

I installed the Q6700 to replace the 1.86 GHz stock CPU and it runs cooler than the Core 2 Duo E6300 that I removed.

  • Easy Upgrade

I wish I hadn't waited so long to do this with my now 11 year old computer. The upgrade took less than 10 minutes and I am happy with the results. Considering that I paid $16.50 upgrade from a dual core to a quad core, I think it is an excellent value!

  • value 4 money

hard to find these days, yet the performance it offers rejuvenates my old s775 system... you add an ssd and do not need to spend a fortune for a skylake system. Performs well also for light gaming. Value for money! and one 'click' better than the Q6600.
