Injection-molded Waterproof Carry-on for Your Studio Gear! The SKB Studio Flyer Rack Case is a steamer trunk of innovative features packed into a compact, convenient, carry-on size. It boasts a virtually indestructible injection-molded shell that is both lighter, stronger, and less expensive than the previous 2U Studio Flyer. It also features front and rear molded-in square rack rails that are pre-installed with cage nuts, giving an extra element of security to sensitive equipment on the go. Improved quiet-glide wheels, a user-friendly pull handle, built-in cord pockets, and a laptop compartment under the lid all help make the SKB Studio Flyer the ultimate transport solution for studio gear today.
As a freelance classical recording engineer I've been in need of a small portable rig to carry a 1U interface and a 1U 8-channel preamp. Found this and it's perfect. Clamps down really tight on the computer so I'm not worried about it banging around inside. There's just enough space left over in the back for power, USB and patch cables to go between the interface/pre and computer.
There isn't much extra space in the back for other things though (such as mics, bigger cables, etc.) so you'll need to bring those in a separate bag or something. Still, this helped me cut down on separate laptop and interface bags. I find that there is a bit of wasted space on the bottom in the front and back where there are two "slots". I think I might find a way to use some foam to create comfy compartments for USB sticks and other small things I carry around.
However, here's a warning: my 15-inch 2011 MacBook Pro is slightly too big to allow the velcro laptop holders to be placed completely around the computer. I managed to put some in front and on the sides of the computer which I find is enough to hold it. Any computers that are bigger than this might pose an issue, but I suppose you could make a bit more space by removing the front holders and only using them on the sides.
Overall great, solid product. I'm not afraid that any of my gear will get damaged inside. Also, the lifetime warranty is great.
I have a QSC TouchMix8 mixer on top. I mounted a 12 outlet AC power strip in rear rack. I inserted a 1-Rack Blank-Out on the top front, & 2 Audio-Technica system 10 Pro digital wireless systems side-by-side in 1U rack space. This supplies 4 digital wireless mics, a power strip & an additional space in front for a rack mounted wireless in-ear monitor system.
The quality is very good and allows me to pack a lot into a small space. Wheels makes it very mobile when it gets heavy from carrying by the handle. Very satisfied.
