fora degree school for knowledge books
it used to be that chiltons was the place to go for a home mechanic, but they were taken over by the harvard school of business administration and their manuals now consist of the advice if this happens take it to a professional....although the section in chiltons is helpful padding on how to do body work, it wont get you from point a-b. Haynes on the other hand bases every book on a complete tear down and rebuild of the vehicle portrayed. if you are a do it yourself mechanic either out of choice or necessity, there are no other good short books on how to fix something that has gone wrong than the haynes manual. this one gives you enough information that you can fix simple things that are wrong with the dodge pu but stops short of the encyclopedic knowledge needed to rebuild the injection pump,... diesel injectors and pumps take specialized tools costing tens of thousands of dollars and in the case that something is really wrong with either of these you really are better off to find the place the professionals take their stuff to get it re built....but for the most part advice on how to fix and install the parts even for the cummins are clear and on point. certainly the electrical troubleshooting is indispensable if packrats have chewed up your wiring, or something is unplugged. this manual will get you home if something mysterious happens while on the road and you carry tools for the eventuality. most of the repair facilities on the road are manned by eighteen year olds who throw parts at it and charge for the "repair " till you are out of money. this one manual wont make you an expert, but it offers expert advice for the basic repairs. there are actual shop manuals for re building injection pumps, and transmissions and since they are bigger than this they are not portable or even needed , thats not a criticism they understand the business of giving you enough information to get you home, and dont try to get you in trouble doing it. you should have one of these for every car you have in the trunk in a two gallon ziplock bag and enough tools to do simple repairs or you should just keep the thing in the drive and wax it till it falls into dust.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
