Superb small camera. I use two, one for color and the other for B&W. Direct rival to OM1...can be even simpler to operate.

    Great design well executed.

  • Top critical review

I thought it would be just fine.

I immediately ran a roll of 36 exp. black and white film through the camera and it came out fine. My son is taking a photography class and needed a film SLR. He ran a roll of 24 exp black and white and it was fine. Then when he loaded a third roll of film into it and took a shot the mirror stuck open. It needs a full repair (says the camera shop). Not an easy fix, and it's past the 14 day return period. So I am very unhappy! I used an older Pentax ME for years and years and loved it. I wanted to upgrade to the ME Super so that he could use it on Manual and get shutter or aperture preferred ability. I'm really really disappointed that the camera worked for so little time. It's an electronic shutter so the camera shop person thought that it might be the batteries. One of the batteries tested fine, the other one was dead. Why would someone put in a mismatched set of batteries? We put in a fresh set of batteries and that didn't get fix the problem. And with new batteries in the camera won't turn off when it is set in the "lock" position. It needs a full repair! I'm not at all happy.

  • Compare Pentax ME Super with the OM series

It is obvious that the engineers at Pentax designed their ME Super to compete with the Olympus OM series cameras. For the most part they all do the same thing... take wonderful photographs. The major difference I saw with the Pentax as compared to the Olympus is that they did some cost cutting by not dampening the mirror; there is considerable more noise and internal shake as compared to the OM (single number series). But I still like this camera. Most of the time, photographers shoot 1/60 sec. and faster. The camera shake is not prevalent at those speeds. I think the practicality of adjusting the shutter speeds via the buttons on the top next to the shutter release is much easier than the OM cameras with the inner ring on the lens mount. This is especially for those with large hands and fingers. Optics: I believe that they are equal for the most part unless one is into the high tech blow-up of the corners, and check for color-aberrations, and the such. But most people will only enlarge up to an 8x10, and maybe some to an 11x14. But then that's pushing the edge of most any 35mm film for any form of clarity. I refurbish both the OM-2 and the Pentax ME Super for resale. Both are great small cameras, and I cannot say one is better than the other as they have their different good points and not so good points.

  • Pentax ME Super

Camera in very good condition. This is one of my favorites, with the Olympus OM1 and the Canon Elan 7Ne. I have 3 digital cameras, but nothing more gratifying than the film experience, and the beautiful sound of these perfect engineered machines.

  • Pentax ME Super

This was the first 35mm camera I ever owned. It is simple to operate. I purchased this camera body to replace the original which had a film advance malfunction. This is the only flaw I have ever had with this camera. Lots of people have had this same problem. This mechanism just doesn't last.

  • Does not work

At first glance it looks great. I tested it and as described all the levers functions. But, the shutter doesn’t engage. It just winds. The power winder is non functional. Both items must be taken apart and worked on. But, as clearly described it’s untested

  • The product was not operational.

The product was not operational. *AS/IS* does not mean it is not working. Having the PASSED label up front is false advertisement. UNACCEPATBLE!!!
