Surprising quality, outstanding value
i own several Chinese mechanical watches, and this one may be the best quality and value of them all. The automatic movement of this watch is likely made by Seagull, and it's fancy finished, with engine turned winder, highly decorated, and visible from the back. The dial is well made, with double sunk indentations for the calendar and power reserve indicator. There's a center mounted sweep second hand, and the movement hacks. The see through "heartbeat" above six o'clock has a visible balance wheel, and the small sub dial minute hand is replaced with a triangle shaped piece that simulates a tourbillion. The watch has a genuine leather strap that fits my large wrist, with an extra notch to spare. It's large at 43mm, but no so large it wont fit under a shirt cuff. It even features a power reserve indicator, and the mainspring hand winds, to start the automatic feature off with an reserve. There's a gas valve on the side of the case, that should mean the watch is waterproof, although I'm not going to tempt fate by exposing the watch to water.
Quite a watch, for less than a hundred bucks.
You can buy generic Chinese automatic watches for twenty some dollars, and they are decent, well made, usable watches. There are Chinese watches that cost several hundred dollars, and I'll be they are well worth the money. But Parnis sells a lot of watches in the hundred dollar range, like this one, that combine outstanding quality with fantastic value for the money.
It would cost more than this watch costs, to have a Swiss mechanical automatic watch serviced.
And to replace this watch with a stem winding, hackable, automatic watch with power reserve and calendar complication would cost many times what this Parnis version brings.
Bravo Parnis!!!
We want more of these!
