It'll get your VR feet wet
As long as you already have the phone you need to use this, the Gear VR with controller is a fun thing to mess around with. It will certainly not compete with something like the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift in terms of game graphics or complexity, but it excels at allowing you to view 360 and/or 3D video content. I even enjoy using it just to watch non-3D stuff, like Netflix shows, because the screen looks enormous when you're watching it from inside the headset. It's no replacement for a big screen TV, but if all you have is your phone, it's way better than staring at the phone screen by itself. When it comes to simply watching stuff, this is actually the best option compared to the other VR headsets as the screen on a Galaxy S7/S8 is higher resolution. Also, I can't stress enough how nice it is not to have to have wires going from the headset to a computer. Yes, it means that you only get games that are capable of running on a phone, but I don't play games on it that much anyway. That said, there are some good games on the Gear VR. Not a huge amount, but a good handful. Some of them are pretty short experiences, and not graphically impressive. And you won't be interacting with things by reaching out and grabbing them because the Gear VR controller doesn't allow for that kind of interaction, but many of the games are still fun anyway. Also, there is a lot that is free or not to expensive. The Oculus Store has sales pretty frequently as well. All in all, I like the Gear VR. It's more of a toy than anything else, but I do enjoy messing around with it.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
