OK preamps, OK ADCs, I would prefer USB over Firewire
First of all, you need a Firewire 400 card with the Texas Instruments chipset. I use one by LaCie. I've never really used the DSP features of the Saffire, since I have plenty of effects in my DAW. The Mix Control software is kind of cryptic, so you have to read the manual and experiment. I got the Black Lion mods done, but I still was not satisfied with the quality of the preamps and I eventually bought an expensive outboard preamp, bypassing the Saffire's built-in preamps. I like the fact it has a Toslink ADAT in port and RCA S/PDIF in/out, which work fine if you can figure out the Mix Control software. I ended up getting an RME ADI2 outboard ADC and bypassing the Saffire ADCs and just using the Saffire to interface my ADC to my computer. For this one simple task, I think Firewire is kind of stupid. So I bought an ESI Audio USB U24XL for much cheaper that does that job without the expense of preamps and a Firewire card. And then I found out the U24XL had horrible latency on a hackentosh, so I’m back to using the Safire, which works great on both Mac and Windows images,Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Two built-in mic preamps and two line level inputs (can be expanded via ADAT connection with external extension such as Focusrite Okta Pre line) Extremely easy to configure and start recording. Nice firewire interface
