    Sigma DG 70-300 for Canon

I was looking for a lens that I could use with my Canon 6d that had a little more reach. The price was so reasonable that I decided to give it a try thinking that if it didn't meet my needs I haven't invested that much into it. I wanted image stabilization, but decided I would use my tripod to compensate for the lack of IS on this lens. An added benefit, I purchased a backup camera, a Canon t4i which has a crop sensor and when used with this lens gives me an equivalent of a 112-480mm. I took test shots with both camera bodies using manual focus on a tripod and was very pleased at the sharp shots I was able to get. I then took some hand held shots on the 6d expecting quite a bit of blur, but was able to get some decent shots at 300mm. The macro feature produced acceptable pictures allowing macro without having to be too close to the object being photographed. I am in no hurry now to upgrade and get that image stabilization, with proper use this lense is a keeper.

Not worth the money for any artistic photography!

I purchased this lens for use with the forensics photography I do. I needed a stand off macro and this seemed to fit the bill. It works and is satisfactory for that purpose with several caveats. 1. The auto focus flat out doesn't work. It's noisy, tries to focus but won't. I do all my focusing by hand with this lens. 2. the lens is not well made. the fit of the moving components is very rough. 3. The clarity leaves much to be desired. It is sufficient for the purpose I need it for but barely. I dare not take a photograph using this lens without a tripod and several captures. 4. Fstop settings on this lens is very inconsistent. The focal field on F11 in one image will be nice and deep but on the next image will be shallow as if I am using F4 or 5. Don't waste your money on this lens unless you need a lens for technical photography and have time to be frustrated with the lack of a reliable auto focus and control system.

  • Good lens

For the price, is a good lens. Good construction and good quality pictures. The only down side is the MACRO switch, ussualy get stuck and have to struggle to disengage the macro. Tried different combination to disengage but just can not figure out a way to consistently disengage the switch. Other than that is a good lens for the price. Use it with a Canon EOS 250D

  • Better than what I expected

The image looks very good. I shoot primarily video and it is a great lens for interviews when the subject is static. I do have to swap lenses for b-roll but I think that is to be expected. The only difficulty I had was that it took me about 10 minutes to figure out how the macro worked and I consider myself a very experienced videographer. Once I had that figured out I haven't had any problems and I can't tell any big difference between this lens and the more expensive Canon.

  • Powerful, bright, good for adaptability, affordability

This is a great lens that is neither too large or bulky or too small. It is effective, sharp, adaptable and great for many situations. Great value. I have adapted it as a manual lens for a Sony E-mount. There is a setting that must be adjusted when you first go to use it, but after that, you have a great manual zoom and focus lens with good light and strength. For a Cannon this would be even better. I found that after playing around, the concern of image stabilization was not a big deal. As a shaky photographer, I was stable with this. The key is focus.

  • Nice lens.

Awesome lens to replace an older one that quit zooming. For the way I use the lens, it's a perfect lens.
