Considered to be the first Air Jordan shoe to gain international fame, the Air Jordan 4 was designed by Tinker Hatfield and was first released in 1989. The Jordan 4 shoe was also the first Jordan sneaker to feature nubuck leather, mesh, and plastic detailing. During the 1989 NBA playoffs, Michael Jordan, founder of the Jordan shoe line, made his famous score, "The Shot," against the Cleveland Cavaliers in a pair of Jordan 4s. The colorway worn by Michael Jordan during that game was Bred, a black and red design similar to the Jordan 4 Red Thunder of today.
About the Jordan 4 Red Thunder Release Date
The Air Jordan 4 Retro Red Thunder shoe is based on the design of the Jordan 4 Thunder, which was a yellow-colored shoe released once in 2006 and once in 2012. The Red Thunder version dropped on January 15, 2022, and replicates the same color-blocking of the thunder editions with red replacing the yellow accents.
About the Yellow Jordan 4 Thunder
The Jordan 4 Thunder is the predecessor shoe to the Jordan 4 Red Thunder and features Tour Yellow coloring with black blocking. This shoe was originally released as part of the Thunder and Lightning Jordan 4 pack in 2006. Available on eBay, the Jordan 4 Lightning sneaker uses the same yellow coloring but opts for less black color blocking and instead uses black as an accent color only.
The Look of the Jordan 4 Red Thunder
The Jordan 4 in Red Thunder features a colorway of black and red with subtle white accents. As with the original Jordan 4 shoes, it shows a Jumpman logo with the text Flight written underneath it on the tongue. Also in a similar fashion to the OG Jordan 4s is red mesh on the sides of the foot and toe of the shoe and a black nubuck leather material covering the rest of the upper.
Plastic webbed eye stays are featured in red, contrasting with the black laces. The midsole is made of red and black rubber, and there is a visible Air sole unit in the heel of the outsole. More Jumpman branding comes through on the arch of the sole, and the Air Jordan name can be seen in a patch on the underside of the tongue. A black textured mudguard is also featured on the back of the ankle.
The Features of the Jordan 4 Red Thunder Retro
The Jordan 4 Red Thunder Retro includes all the same features as the OG Jordan 4 line. One of the top features of the sneaker is the Air sole cushioning on the sole that provides bounce during wear. Other features of the shoe include an enlarged tongue, a mid-top silhouette, and an Air Max insole.
The Future Release of the Yellow Jordan 4 Thunder
In 2023, a re-release of the predecessor to the Jordan 4 Red Thunder will come as the third version of the Jordan 4 Thunder in Tour Yellow. This version of the yellow Jordan 4 Thunder will be identical to the past two versions and is expected to drop on May 13.
