Great Camera and Lens

I recently decided it was time to park my trusty 40D and move up to something more current, and the 80D has not disappointed. The controls are a little different than those of the 40D, but it's still a Canon, and the layout and operation seems pretty logical. For night photography the high ISO options are great, and the sensor doesn't produce as much noise as I expected. The rear screen can be adjusted for self-portraits or for filming at odd angles, and it also comes in handy for adjusting shots of low growing flowers when shooting macro. The sensor is not full-frame, and it doesn't quite perform like the best Canon models, but it's more than adequate for 99.9% of photographers.

Most "kit" zooms only offer half the range I need for everyday photos. I love the 18-135 lens because it has the focal range to make it a truly useful lens for most needs. Yes, I have a couple of L lenses, but they are not quite as handy as this lens for photos at family gatherings or daily events.Read full review
