Compact design, Lightweight and great features

The microscope is smaller than the usual microscope of the same design, compact and lightweight

The 10x Eyepieces are good, but have some chromatic and spherical aberration
The 25x eyepieces are similar in quality and performance.
Both can be focused individually and the eye separation can be adjusted with ease. Also can focus the picture on the camera AND the eyepieces simultaneously.
Objective revolver is solid and well built and is DIN standard



The objective lenses give sharp images, alas they don't have a flat FOV.
The center is focused and suffer from spherical aberration. But they work great for histological and histo-pathological slides

LED Lighting is adjustable and the condenser is focusable.

The camera is rather compact as well, and gives sharp crisp images.
The software is easy to use and has a lot of tools built-in

The stage is rock-solid and holds focus perfectly. The two axis motion is a bit stiff, but gives great control over the slide movement.

The 5Mpix camera performs rather well and has auto exposure and white balance

Prisms are good and give great images with no additional artifacts.

Great microscope

This is a great microscope. stage controls and focus controls are smooth and solid. The adjustable sub-stage light and iris diaphragm allow for a great deal of contrast variation. Setting the camera resolution down to 800 by 600 allows recording of real-time motion of moving protozoa and bacteria (on my laptop).

The camera magnification is about the same as 20 or 25 power eyepieces.

It isn't often that an instrument works right out of the box. This one did and it was easy to install and use. Instructions are okay enough to help you navigate initially. Great field of view, easy operation, reasonably good CCD in the camera (5 MP). The unit is surprisingly sturdy and seems to be well made. Bought it for my grand children and they really took to it starting with plant leaves and feathers from our parrot. Good microscope for casual use, hard to use > 1000x. Good price.

Overall, this microscope a good value, suitable for casual use if the user does not need to use 1000x. In general it works well. One surprise was its size (about 2/3 the size of standard microscopes) -- the base of the unit is about 5x7", and the eyepieces are about 13" above the surface. This small size puts the focus knobs a bit too close to the stage, but this isn't a deal breaker. The microscope is sturdy and should last well. The software was easy to install.
A serious shortcoming is the difficulty focusing at 1000x -- the slightest movement of the fine focus knob makes a big difference in focus. The stage scale (the 'ruler' with x and y axis marked in mm) is difficult to use, especially the x-axis, because the two opposing scales are separated by a few mm. Another problem is the 40x objective, which is long enough to contact immersion oil after using the 100x objective.
PS don't get excited about the magnifications over 1000x that are advertized. No light microscope can do much better than 1000x -- beyond this, the image is enlarged but there's no additional resolution. In other words, you'll see a bigger image but no finer details -- just enlarged view of the same fuzzy blobs. The resolution of light microscopes is limited by the wavelength of light.Read full review
