The Holiday, film reveiw

I have seen this film a dozen times or so and never get tired of it. It's a great story of an American and English women, both leaving, or having been left with awful boy friends. They swap homes on a spur of a moment decision over Christmas and News Years to get a chance to review their lives. Each meets a new man, one in Hollywood and the other in Dorset. The story hangs together extremely well, with the English woman befriending a grieving widowed elderly film writer, how has "not been busy since 1976 (!)," played by Eli Wallach. He helps her to sort out her life and the way she was jilted. by explaining to her that he had known a lot of leading ladies is his life in film: by telling her over dinner that there are leading ladies and just friends, and he can tell that she is a leading lady. In turn, she encourages him to make a public appearance to be honored for his lifetime of work as a screen writer. Just a great film, and I had to have a copy of my own, so I can watch it a dozen more times, with my spouse, of course.Read full review...

Great writing, filming, and acting

We really enjoyed the movie. One you can watch with folks of any age. Far better than most of the tripe that Hollywierd produces these days.
