Great Converter Box
My original converter box, purchased way back when you got discount coupons from the government final died. Tried another brand purchased from a big retailer. It wouldn't pull in half the channels of my original.
Found out about the iView box and bought it. Hooked it up and ran the channel scan. Wow! It found 125 channels in my area (Houston,Tx) I had no idea that much was out there. I am using a cheap antenna mounted outside on the roof at work.
Over the air TV actually has a better picture than cable or satellite because it isn't compressed.
A side bonus of this box is you can connect an external hard drive and use it as a DVR without purchasing a separate DVR!

good and bad
the good=easy to set up, very low price for an HD capable box, picked up 3X as many channels as my old Zenith box and has easy to programmable learn buttons to turn your TV on and off and switch sources. the component output will send 1080i or 720P assuming your set can accept that (most older HD CRT's are 1080i max). The remote is a good size for adult hands and feels solid.
The bad= Very slow to turn on and boot. Remote is totally directional, will not operate unless pointed perfectly at box. The built in program guide is awful, takes up half the screen and will not tell you what's showing on other channels unless you switch to them. No " last button" to allow for quick changes between 2 channels . Volume and Channel buttons are reversed from any other remote I've ever seen, so you will be changing one when you want the other.

Excellent picture for our monitor at work which we use for over the air tv. Channels are crystal clear! But be aware, over the air networks don't broadcast at 1080p so in the settings make sure it's set to 720p. I made a mistake and had it set at 1080p and the picture jumped off and on and sometimes the screen went black for a second. I thought it was the antenna or bad connections and it drove us at work crazy for a few weeks. I went through all setting many times and decided to set it to 720p and everything went back to normal. Since networks don't broadcast at 1080p the box is somehow trying to achieve something that's not there and goes haywire. Just set to 720p and this box works great. I use a USB 16GB MicroSD card to record tv shows in high definition when we're away and it works great. Buy this one and you will be happy!Read full review...

Useful and inexpensive DVR, but with a limited life
I've used these for a few years. It is a very useful and inexpensive DVR for over-the-air (OTA) broadcasts, meaning the TV shows you catch for free with an antenna. The Converter does work but will NOT convert Cable channels into a local channel form at that is readable without going through the entire channel list and renaming each to a understandable name.
