Fledgling by Octavia Butler

I generally don't like vampire stories. But this one knocked my socks off! Octavia Butler is one of the greatest science fiction writers ever. I am so glad that she wrote this vampire book before she died. - This mesmerizing story is more believable and more captivating than traditional vampire stories (e.g. Anne Rice). - The plot is well-woven and the characters are fully developed. As in Butler's science fiction works the social and racial messages are clear and insightful.
