A gentle reminder to find your own heartsong.

This book is a child's view on family, love, joy, death and grief. Writen in a poetic style, with wisdom, beyond his tender years, this young authors writing was unique and very personal. A book that can be read over and over again, as long as you keep tissue close by. His heartsongs will tug at your own heart and give you, the reader, cause to thank God for your own life and gifts.

I AM LEGEND (2008, DVD)

I admire the acting skills of Will Smith, and I enjoy all forms of Science Fiction, so I purchased the DVD. The film version differs from the book in several places. The mutants in the book have become two types vs. the mutants of one type in the film, although the differences are hinted at in the scene where a mutant faces light reguardless of possible injury to itself. Again, mutant intelligence is seen when the character of Will Smith is delibrately trapped. The scenes of a quiet and neglected New York are riveting and unsettling. As we all know now, this sci-fi concept would never be a reality because of our neuclear plants having meltdowns without human mantanance. Still the idea is a good story line, and it was good to see that the human spirit can be strong in adversity and trust in God is a universal truth.

An exceptional journey of discovery through, space and time.

I bought this copy to replace one I gave away because I enjoyed the book very much. This was a unique fictional account of a first contact with an alien race. Several humans make the eight month journey to a distant planet where the origin of musical harmonies had been detected. Upon their arrival, the discovery of two separate and distinct species of humanoids become evident. The author indicates through events that occur, how miscommunications can cause horrible and irreparable damage to all involved. Making the journey are a few Jesuit priests, since the trip is funded by the Catholic church. An atheist, a long married, loving couple, the young male scientist, who made the initial discovery are some of the characters the author makes you familiar with. The author has a definate gift of creating characters that are people you would like to know. Her background in anthropology gives her the ability to allow the reader to see, and experience another way of life, another form of existance. She also allows the reader to understand the conflicts and pain of lost faith, and the resurgence of Hope and Love and fulfillment. One interesting factor in the book, is that the eight month journey for the travelers, actually takes seventeen earth years of time. Upon returning home Thirty Four Years (Plus time on the planet) have passed.
