great quality, excellent price

perfect camping meal
1 of 1 found this helpful Economic choice for a camper or hiker. Excellent price at just under $ 3.00 per meal! Having experience with other MRE 's, I would put these equal to even "real" government issued ones. Meal bag is clear, but of the same weight as the tan/brown ones. Also, Wornick is one of the manufacturer's of the authentic MRE. This particular case we got was packaged on Nov 6, 2012, listed as Lot: 2311 with a use by date of 11-5-2015. We could not tell that the food was almost 4 years old. Heaters all worked, some hotter than others, but seems like that is the norm, no matter what age. Still experimenting with the critical amount of water added. As a salt lover, these are great, but even I would not add any more to the main entree. Do not expect to see the little bottle of Tabasco Sauce any more as those are gone now, but we did see a packet of it once. Also, the accessory packets of wornicks authentic MRE's are more complete with matches, instant coffee and tissue in some. These came with fork knife and spoon. Recommend bringing a bottle of water to mix your drink in as there is no beverage bag, unless you use the bag the whole meal comes in. The kids love em! It's like Christmas up in the woods of the Allagash in northern Maine. Gonna order another case for the next trip!

Quality OEM replacement
Fit seemed tight on center tube, but this may be normal as its been quite a few years since I've replaced a wick and may have forgotten. Will hold off filling lamp with oil till it is needed as it seems to discolor after 20 years.... The parafin oil may lubricate the wick and make easier to raise and lower the wick. Don't tear off paper tabs on bottom of wick till you use them to assist with installation!
