Wroks fine for connecting old monitor to PC, however monitor does not sleep when PC is shut off

Works fine for using an older monitor with only VGA on a graphics card with DVI. Have not tried it the other way around as I have no need to. Only issue is that when the computer is turned off, the monitor says "check video cable" as if it was not connected instead of going to sleep like it would if it were connected to a VGA port. This does not bother me as I normally have the PC on 24/7 and just turn off the monitor, so for what I need it to do it is fine, but this is something to keep in mind.
