A fitting end for a legendary band
When Soundgarden resurfaced in the late 2000s no-one was sure that they would be able to recapture the strange visceral magic of their 90s heyday but we needn't have worried.
King Animal doesn't sound like it was made by a band that had been away for over a decade. It isn't quite as fast and furious as some of their early work but these were mature musicians, still with plenty of bite but no need to prove their 'heavy' credentials.
In the light of the sad death of Chris Cornell [despite preparations for a new album before his death] we will never have another Soundgarden album, whatever is left in the vaults will inevitably be released but as a major piece of work, and as a tribute to the man himself, King animal is a fitting, and impressive end for a legendary band.
