    Olympus Zuiko 200mm f/4 Lens
    Jun 11, 2016
Hard to beat in a manual focus telephoto lens.
I bought this lens probably in 1980 for my Olympus om-1. I really liked it a lot and used it a fair amount. Fast-forward to 2005 when I first went digital. What with little kids and a family that would not pose, I kind of put this and my other manual lenses away. Fast forward again to 2015 when for various reasons I replaced my Evolt 300 with a used E-3. I started playing around with my old manual lenses, the 50 millimeter, the 100 millimeter and this one. And bought an 85 millimeter, 135 millimeter and 300 millimeter for the fun of it. But I keep coming back to the 200 millimeter for taking pictures of for example college lacrosse games. I need a lot of light mostly because of my almost 60 year old eyes. And I certainly don't get every picture as well as I would if I had that expensive but beautiful 50 to 200 millimeter digital Zoom that Olympus offers. But the pictures on this lens are absolutely beautiful when I correctly focus them manually. I use it exclusively handheld also. It is built like a tank and is an absolute piece of art. It feels very nice on the E3 in my hands. Which are larger than average for sure. For some of the prices I have seen ($60), it's a steal.

    Olympus OM-System Zuiko Auto-Macro 50mm f/3.5 MF Lens

    Cheap, good manual macro lens
I purchased this lens for about $55, figuring at that price I could not lose. My experience with this lens is broadly similar as with other manual lenses on my OMD EM 1. Wide open, they're not great. Very soft (although this one, at 3.5 maximum aperture, isn't bad). But stopped down some, the IQ is quite good. And the price is always right. Plus, this lens is gorgeous.

Olympus Digital 12-60mm f2.8-4 Zuiko SWD ED Lens 4/3 #743

Very good IQ, quick focusing, good focal range
As with many things in life, whether something is "worth it" depends. I am an enthusiast photographer, I suppose it would be called. Not a professional, and never will be a professional. I have an E-3, having upgraded in the last year from an E-300. (I love the E-3 compared to the old E-300. A huge upgrade in all respects.) I love this lens. It takes great pictures and feels good on the camera body. I also have used the kit 14 – 42 mm and the 14 – 54 mm. The 12-60 mm is a substantial improvement over the 14 – 42 in all respects and a marginal improvement, at least, over the 12 – 54, especially in terms of auto focus and the slightly greater focal range. The 12 – 60 mm also seems to have better IQ than the 12-54 mm. At least, I think it does but on the other hand perhaps I am just trying to convince myself I made the right decision to purchase it. The decision whether to buy the 12-60 mm depends entirely on how much money you want to pay for photography equipment and what you're upgrading from. For $200, I was able to buy this lens used with two slight scratches on the front that as far as I can tell do not affect IQ. At that price, and especially if you do not have another lens in this focal range, I would definitely recommend getting this lens. It is bigger than the other two but a step up and significant step up in some sense from either. If you already have the 12-54 mm, are not too picky, and have limited funds to spend, frankly you might just stick with it as it's a darn good lens. (The 12-42 mm is a pretty good lens also and dirt cheap.) If that's the case, I would put the money into for example the 50 – 200 mm or the 70 – 300 mm instead. Or maybe a good fixed prime lens.
