It's wire...
Appears to be good quality and insulation can take the heat from soldering with a micro-torch. It's about as flexible as you could hope for without spending a whole lot more on the super high strand count stuff.

Great Value
4 of 4 found this helpful I can't speak to the durability as I've only had it a short time. However, it appears well made from reasonably heavy cotton canvas or similar material. The snap appears to be good quality as well.
Looks like it will hold up for a while, but I do expect the material to eventually wear through. If it takes a couple to make it through a season of camping, no big deal. It's priced low enough, though, that it can be considered disposable. Along those lines, I would highly recommend a blade guard. If you sharpen your hatchet the way I do, the material could be cut by an exposed edge. It is, after all, just canvas. I'm thinking I may line the inside with duct tape to help in the durability department.
Most importantly, it fit my 1-1/4 lb Craftsman hatchet very nicely. A slightly larger ax or hatchet would fit as well, maybe up to 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 lb range.
For you backpackers or others concerned with weight, this thing weighs next to nothing. I already have a 1-1/4 pound hatchet. No need to add more, right? Ounces make pounds, pounds make pain.
It not only has a belt loop as described, but also the old school pistol belt prongs, not mentioned. I tried it out using them. It held on ok, but I didn't like the way it had a tendency to swing. I removed the prongs and opted for the belt loop which held it more securely. Get a K-Bar adapter for a couple dollars and you have a nice MOLLE compatible sheath.
If you're looking to protect the head/edge or want something to last a lifetime, I'd look elsewhere. However, it works great as a way to attach a hatchet to your gear or belt. With that purpose in mind, you can't beat it for the price.

Good Deal
Appears to be identical to the OEM cover it replaced and was a perfect fit. Best of all, it cured the oil leak that was the reason for ordering it. It hasn't been on long enough to comment on durability, but so far I am well pleased. As my favorite tool reviewer would say, the combination of price, fit, and quality makes it a sore (fill in the blank) deal, you just can't beat it.
