THE "Mysterious Island"
1 of 1 found this helpful The '61 British version of Jules Verne's classic is far superior to all that followed. The story of a group of Civil War prison escapees swept away in a hot air balloon to a mysterious island filled with oversized plants and animals is a sheet delight! The lesser known actors led by Michael Craig and Gary Merrill are perfectly cast. The script is ingenious and underrated in my view with memorable line after line. Other highlights-Legendary composer, Bernhard Herman's fantastic score and Ray Harryhausen's ground breaking animation. Just as good the 20th time as it is the first!

"The Lost Symbol"-A great Thriller with a terrific reader, Paul Michael
I purchased this product to replace one I lost. Although I have not finished listening to "The Lost Symbol" I highly recommend it. Many of my friends say it's his best yet and I agree so far. I like to read a book AND listen...a bit of reading, then a bit of listening.(try it...just remember to move your book mark!) I have read/listened to Dan Brown's "The Davinci Code", "Angels and Demons" and "Deception Point". Brown's stories and writing style are both thrilling and thought provoking. Consistently a "page (or in this case) CD turner!" He is on a par with my favorite writer, the late, great Michael Crichton. Thrilling, intelligent and often fact based story telling! What I especially like about this recorded book (as well as the other Dan Brown works I mentioned) is the reader, Paul Michael. Of the many thrillers I've read/listened to...Paul Michael is my favorite reader. There is just something about his voice that draws me in. He IS Robert Langdon as far as I'm concerned. (Although Tom Hanks does a great job in the films). I highly recommend this product for the reasons already stated. As a side note, if you enjoy Dan Brown and Michael Crichton, check out the works of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. They write both as a team ("The Relic") and individually. Ex.-Child's "Utopia" and Preston's "The Codex". Here's wishing you happy reading...or listening. This is a great one in my opinion. -K

Timeless Sci-Fi Classic
I'm a film buff, whatever the genre. There are some film's that are just as good the 20th time as the first. In Science Fiction, "War of the Worlds" is such a film. H.G. Wells' harrowing tale of a Martian invasion of our planet has come to screen more than a few times, but none come close to the George Pal/Byron Haskins early 50s masterpiece starring Gene Barry as a scientist caught in the middle of an attack on our world by beings from another. The Visual and sound effects are fantastic even by today's standards and for me, the perfect cast delivers one memorable line after another. I can't wait to see it again...and again!
