a Christmas classic sure to warm the heart
2 of 2 found this helpful This book was a favorite in my home growing up. We loved seeing that top get chopped off and passed along to a new owner, then chopped again and passed on again. The illustrations are delightful and will enchant this generation of younglings as much as they did the generation when it was first published. It hasn't lost its magic in all these years. Christmas time is made a bit cozier with Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree around. Each home should have a copy of its own.

Mama Panya's Pancakes
This is a great children's book in every way, sure to delight readers both young and old. The water color illustrations are fantastic and the simple story finishes on a very satisfying note. The facts about life in Kenya included at the close of the book are a big plus as well. The only flaw is that the pancake recipe included does not turn out if you follow it; way, way too much oil is prescribed. Despite this, the book gets a big A+ and a hearty recommendation to those who enjoy short children's stories.

Facing the Lion
I needed a book along the topic line of African tribes for intermediate students of English. Reading one paragraph from the book convinced me this was the perfect choice. Lemasolai's accounts of his growing up years as a Maasai are quite captivating. If you have no interest in visiting Africa before reading this book, it might change your mind. A marvelous book for group discussion. An easy read for someone who wants a broader view of the diversity of life and ways of living it on this planet.
