The Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers Book by Arlene Croce (1972 HC/DJ 1st Ed)

    Pure Gold!
Pure Gold! Fantastic book. Reading each chapter is like watching each of the 10 great musicals starring Ginger and Fred. A film book to treasure.
    The Mikado
    Jun 20, 2016
Joyous Gilbert and Sullivan operetta. A musical classic!
This filmed version is a joyous performance of the beloved Gilbert and Sullivan operetta that has the added advantage of the wonderful singing voice of Kenny Baker as Nanki-Poo and the hilariously amusing Martyn Green as the hapless Koko with great support from the famed D'Oyly Carte Opera company. A clever satire on the laws and traditions of Great Britain, the story in transposed to a never-neverland called "Japan" with one outrageously amusing lyric and delightful melody after another. One of the many highlights: The Mikado himself appears and sings: "My object all sublime, I will achieve in time, To make the punishment fit the crime, The punishment fit the crime." This is a treat that can only be repeated by watching this one of a kind film. A musical classic!
Love in the Film Everson, William K. Hardcover
    Sep 09, 2019
    Interesting but very opinionated
Very interesting read for film buffs. Everson is very opinionated in his comments about films and has some very strange choices of films in which the focus is not at all on the "love" angle. Personally I would have omitted at least 30% of his titles and opted for many others that he dismisses out of hand. He stresses "romantic love" in all his choices and ignores love between parent and child, between friends and love of ideals. He is extremely nowledgeable about film history and an excelllent writer so he is interesting to read but he doesn't make me feel he is able to truly enjoy a good love stpry.
