1966 TV SERIES BATMOBILE 1/24 DIECAST CAR MODEL BY HOTWHEELS BLY66
    Dec 17, 2015
    Holy Bat-Cast!
Let me preface this review with a couple of things... 1. This review is protected by EBAY's Verified Owners Rights Program (VeRO). ANY replication of this review in part or in whole is strictly forbidden by EBAY VeRO Policies without my written consent. 2. I have been a collector of Diecast Cars for over 40 years and a former writer and reviewer of 1/24th Scale diecast cars and trucks for Toy Cars and Models Magazine and The Car Room Magazine. Based on this, I do feel I a qualified expert on the subject matter of Diecast Transportation items. When Mattel first announced several years ago that they were doing the TV Series Batmobile, I was one of the first that was interested. At the time, however, they only offered it in 1/18, 1/43 and 1/64 scales and no reason mentioned for not doing 1/24th scale. I did purchase a 1/18th model in the mid detail range. For $80, It was, well...boring. The Elite series was much higher and again...just not worth the effort. When the 1/24th scale was finally announced, I was somewhat excited but approached it with caution. I plopped out $40 and rec'd it about a week later. I opened the box and was pretty shocked to see what the $40 actually bought. Before I get into the details, the body shape and design is accurate to the original 66 TV Series Batmobile and the Radir Wheels with the Bat emblems are fairly accurate. But that's where it stops. There are NO operating features (static front wheels, Doors, Hood or Trunk) so no engine and no access to the Bat Computer. What's a Caped Crime Fighter without his Bat Toys? The bat antenna is fixed Headlights are clear and the orange trim that outlines the tips of the body lines is a bit too thick with overspray in the rear beneath the fins. The rocket tubes behind the rear canopy lacks any detail whatsoever! Interior details (or lack thereof) is laughable at best. The dash has relief details molded into the dash but none of the labels, buttons or other bat gimmicks. The Bat Phone and Steering Wheel are out of proportion being way too large as is the the fire extinguisher. All in all, I am seeing the same thing I saw in the 1/18th version. Boredom. Is it worth $40? Nope. Not in my opinion. I could see $20...$25 maybe. I'm guessing that George's daughter is just a chip off the old block. Seriously, the level of detail in this Batmobile is on par with mid level Maisto products. I need a nap.
